INTERNATIONAL MEN’S HEALTH WEEK 2019
Men's health week is here and now's a good a time as any to take stock and check in. How are you doing?
Did you know that the health of men around the globe, including Australia, is poorer than that of women? More men suffer from diseases easily curable at early detection, see more lifestyle related health conditions and take their own lives. Compared to women, men are three times more likely to die by suicide in Australia. There is a period every year where the health of men comes into question and scrutiny and at this time, we need to take stock. Are you OK? A simple question to be sure but one that carries with it immense weight. Are you OK? It’s vital that all men are free and comfortable to talk openly about the many varied afflictions we all suffer. C’mon, being a guy can be tough from time to time.
The perception is that men don’t really care about their health, and that perhaps the healthcare industry is not as well prepared to cater to men’s needs. This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Men’s health is broad spectrum. How well you take care of your body needs to reflect how well you take care of your mind. Throughout the week, MISTR, with the help of some educated individuals, will be focusing on men’s health topics that don’t see nearly enough coverage. So stick around, we may be able to answer a question you’re needing help with. Seeking help is not weakness. It’s tough.
