How to take care of your lips

Oftentimes the area of most neglect, your lips need as much TLC as the rest of your face. The key here is to be preventative rather than reactive. Once they're chapped, it's easy to fix, but wouldn't you rather they we'rent chapped in the first place?

We brush our teeth daily, take care to trim any stray stubble around the mouth/moustache, apply moisturiser to our faces and yet the lips get little love. They’re a grooming afterthought often only tended to when there’s a problem like chapping or a cold sore. These issues can be easily dealt with before they present themselves by preventing rather than curing. Your grooming regimen is incomplete without a matte lip balm that includes an SPF. Yup, melanomas can and do strike here because our lips are so frequently exposed to the sun. If you do find yourself with chapped lips and need to get rid of it stat, buy a soft-bristled toothbrush, run it under warm water and gently go over the lips with it to budge the dead skin. Then it’s matter of grabbing a lip balm and using it daily. They cost peanuts and the results will be noticeable. Also try to up your water intake as lips are one of the first areas to show the signs of dehydration.

We like:

Salt and Stone SPF 30 lip balm – saltandstone.com
Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF25 – getjackblack.com
Sukin Paw Paw ointment (while this doesn’t contain any SPF, Paw Paw ointment is one of the handiest and most versatile products on the market. Always have some on hand)
